Eye Bags
Eye Bags are a condition that mainly affects a person as they age. As we grow older, the tissues around the eye gradually become weaken, including some of our muscles that support the eyelid. The main treatment we offer in Dermavogue clinic for Eye Bags are Dermal Fillers and Morpheus8.
Bags under the eyes can be seen as mild swelling in the skin below the eye. There are a number of factors that can cause a person to have bags under the eye. The main factor for eye bags and sagging around the eye is ageing. As we age, the muscles that support the eyelids begin to sag, fat in the lower eyelid moves downward, and gravity generally shifts everything downwards over the hills and valleys below the eye. Over time as we age our skin also loses its elasticity due to decreasing collagen and elastin within our body.
Another cause of eye bags is a person’s genetics. Inherited causes tend to be long-term and can be difficult to resolve.
Other causes include:
- Fluid retention: Poor nutrition, especially foods that increase fluid retention such as salty foods
- Allergies- Seasonal and other allergies, including food allergies
- Lack of sleep
- Stress
- Medications
Tips to help reduce eye bags:
- Cut down on fluids before bedtime and limit salt in your diet
- Don’t smoke
- Get enough sleep
- Sleep with your head slightly raised
Frown Lines (lines between eyebrows)
FROWN LINES are a common complaint and often referred to as the “No.11s” as these often appear as two vertical lines between the eyebrows and naturally occur as part of our daily facial expressions and movement or as a result of thinning skin around the area and sun damage.
There are a lot of underlying factors that can cause frown lines and early signs of ageing. For example; UV rays can make the problem worse. The rays break down the collagen and elastin in the skin, causing frown lines, so always be sure to be using your physical sunscreen and stay out of the sun’s harmful rays as much as possible. However, stress and smoking can also contribute to lines on the face. Tobacco in cigarettes can cause frown lines due to the fact it narrows the blood vessels, which in turn allows less oxygen to reach the skin.
We in our Dermavogue clinic, doctors take careful consideration when treating frown lines, they always ensure to take plenty of time to discuss any concerns you may have and what you would like to achieve with your treatment during your consultation. They will also discuss any other potential options with you, to ensure you get the results that you desire.
The main treatment we offer in Dermavogue clinic for Frown Lines are Botox-A, Dermal Fillers and Morpheus8.
Crows Feet (Lines on Corner of Eyes)
CROWS FEET are a very common concern in which lines tend to fan outwards from the outer corners of the eyes. Although these lines can appear fine at first, over time they deepen and are much more visible as the skin loses collagen and elastin in the ageing process, Crow’s Feet can naturally form.
Overuse of facial expressions such as smiling, and squinting can also lead to the formation of crow’s feet. This concern can often become visible prematurely due to skin damage caused by sun exposure, smoking and environmental factors which reduce the quality of the skin, especially around the delicate eye area.
While age and sun damage are significant causes of crow’s feet, they can occur at any age, even for those in their 20s and is something that when treated correctly, can be reduced in a very natural way.
Thankfully here at Dermavogue Aesthetics, we have treatments available to effectively treat your crow’s feet concern. BTX-A anti-wrinkle injections are a safe and highly effective method of significantly reducing the appearance of these lines and often take them away completely. Deeper, static lines (apparent with relaxed muscles), can be treated with hyaluronic acid fillers.
Fine Lines & Wrinkles
Fine lines and wrinkles can appear all over the body and are a part of the natural ageing process. However, many people wish to reduce these while maintaining a natural appearance.
Fine lines are caused by a combination of factors including sun damage, general ageing, smoking, stress as well poor diet.
Ageing is an uncontrollable factor where our skin naturally becomes less elastic and more fragile due to loss of collagen and elastin which is part of the natural ageing process. While we are born with an abundance of collagen, from our mid-late 20s this starts to slow and gradually decreases so our skin starts to look less plump and show signs of aging. Fat in the deeper layers of the skin starts to diminish causing sagging, loose skin and fine lines and wrinkles.
Other factors that cause fine lines and wrinkles can include exposure to the sun’s damaging ultraviolet rays, smoking and repeated facial expressions.
If fine lines are left untreated, they can become deep and permanent and can contribute to looking more tired and aged.
Treatments Available
Before any treatment, you will need to have a consultation with one of the Doctors or skin therapists who will be able to assess your areas of concern and recommend the best course of treatment for you. This will also give you a better understanding of the technology used and what each treatment entails to ensure you are happy before committing to any treatment.
Jowls (Loose Skin Below Jawline)
Jowls can be described as sagging loose skin below the jawline., this is a common sign of ageing. As we age, the skin starts to sag as a result of collagen and elastin loss. How fast this process happens can be dependent on internal and external factors.
Jowls can be less noticeable in people who have thicker skin, more collagen, or more fat in the area below the chin and cheeks. Some may never develop jowls, because of their genes, lifestyle choices and environmental factors.
What can cause jowls?
- Loss of elastin and collagen
- Genetics
- Environmental and lifestyle factors
- Facial expressions
- Smoking
- Sun exposure
- Weight loss
Treatments Available for Jowls
Kiss Lines (Smokers Line)
Kiss lines, more commonly known as Smokers Lines are thin vertical lines which appear on the upper lip and are due to the expression required to smoke a cigarette i.e. pouting.
Static kiss lines or smokers’ lines are the result of many things, however, generally, they are caused by one or a combination of smoking, sun damage and natural ageing, and certainly add years to one’s appearance.
Static kiss lines (lines which appear without the need to pout) are best treated with Dermal Filler or even a combination of Filler and BTX-A. However, excellent results are seen with Chemical peels, radio-frequency skin tightening and skin resurfacing treatment with Dermapen™.
Marionette Lines (Lines Around Corner of Mouth)
Marionette lines, also known as oral commissure lines, extend from the corners of the mouth down the chin causing noticeable lines and sometimes a sad expression.
Marionette lines are caused by mid-face volume loss which is a common part of ageing. As we age, the fat which keeps our face looking plump, young and healthy, degrades, shrinks and slips downwards which results in the overlying skin losing its support. This sagging means that the lower face can develop jowls along the jawline and marionette lines around the mouth.
While many people believe that simply injecting filler the main line or wrinkle will fix this issue, it does not address the underlying cause, which is mid-face volume loss and lack of support in the chin and surrounding area.
