Warts & Veruca

A verruca is a type of wart usually found on the bottom of the foot. Essentially it is the same as a common wart, however due to the weight of the body pressing on it, it is aesthetically different, and can be quite painful. Like other warts, verrucas are caused by strains of human papilloma virus (HPV).

Though unsightly, the main problem with verrucas is the pain and discomfort caused by the position of the verruca. They can spread from person to person by skin contact or contact with surfaces that are contaminated with the virus.

Warts are small, non-cancerous growths within the skin, which are caused by a viral infection in the skin cells. The virus is called the human papilloma virus (HPV) and there are more than 100 types of HPV to date. This virus causes an excess amount of keratin (protein) to develop in the top layer of the skin, creating a rough hard texture.

Though harmless and usually painless, warts can look cosmetically displeasing, causing embarrassment and anxiety to the sufferer.

Verrucas and warts can be stubborn to treat but we have effective methods in clinic that can help. Multiple treatments will be needed depending on the age of the verruca/wart.

Diathermy is the main modality used for the treatment of various unwanted skin blemishes. The diathermy treatment techniques have proven to be an extremely ‘safe and precise’ way to treat many superficial skin abnormalities. Following diagnosis of the skin blemish a probe is accurately positioned in or on the vessel or blemish, and a current is applied which will either cauterise, dry or dehydrate the blemish.

Skin Tags

Skin tags are small flesh-coloured growths that hang off the skin. They can sometimes be darker in colour depending on the age of the tag. Skin tags can easily be mistaken for warts, but they are usually a few millimeters in size and often found in places of friction, normally found on the neck, underarms, under the breasts, around the groin area and eyelids.

Skin tags are harmless and do not cause any pain or discomfort. However, they can cause irritation and often look cosmetically displeasing, leading to patients seeking a safe an effective method of removal.

The treatment process for the removal of skin tags is very effective and they can usually be removed in one session of Advanced Cosmetic Procedure (ACP) or Nano Plasma.

Moles

Moles are small, brown or black growths on the skin. Most people have them and they’re usually nothing to worry about unless they change size, shape or colour.

Generally, moles are harmless growths on the skin that occur when cells in the skin grow in a cluster instead of being spread throughout. These cells are called melanocytes, which makes pigment that gives your skin its natural colour. As the years pass, moles usually change slowly, becoming raised or changing colour.

Moles appear anywhere on the skin and can appear as a single mole or in groups. They can sometimes be in unwanted irritating areas. We cannot remove a mole, but we can reduce the size and any hairs that come from the moles using Advanced Cosmetic Procedure (ACP).
